Yorkshire based George Baggaley hails from a long lineage of ceramicists. Growing up around the porcelain production of the Branksome China factory on the South Coast of England where he learned the fundamentals of his craft.

Now, with an emphasis on making, George’s distinctive, textural work wears its process, celebrating asymmetrical forms and the unpredictability of wood firing to create unique and sculptural hand crafted vessels in stark contrast to the repeating forms and aesthetics of factory made ceramics. Taking inspiration from ancient pottery, the forms are based on his memories of shapes found in museum collections and the inclusion of facial features allude to human history’s ubiquitous obsession with personifying objects. Tiny handles often embellish the exteriors of George’s ceramics acting as a whimsical interpretation of functionality; a playful signature of his textural and shapely hand built ceramic wares.
